District 2: Tamisha L. Civil

District Two Councilor

In 2024 Tamisha L. Civil, a Democrat, won the open seat for District 2 which was vacated by Robert Jubenville who resigned to become a clerk magistrate in 2022 leaving the district unrepresented for two years.

In the Democratic primary, Civil ran against three other candidates and won with 38.7% of the vote. Her nearest opponent won 22.3% of the vote. In the general election, Civil won with 57.2% of the vote to the Republican opponent’s 42.7% of the vote.

Councilor Civil holds a Bachelor of Science, Marketing from Johnson & Wales University and a master’s in criminal justice & leadership from Northeastern University. Her professional experience includes Associate Probation Officer with the  Massachusetts Trial Court, Radio Host,  Victim Witness Advocate with Suffolk County District Attorney, Participant Services Representative and Account Specialist. Civil also ran for the Massachusetts State House of Representatives for Norfolk’s 6th District in 2022 but was unsuccessful.

On her website, Civil states that she was motivated to get involved by her cousin’s 27-year wrongful imprisonment. She lists the following priorities on her website: Reproductive rights, appointing judges who are committed to dismantling systemic injustice and supportive of restorative justice, supporting victims of domestic violence, supporting judges who take a mental health approach to addiction. 

Councilors Zeiger and Civil are the first women of color to serve on the Governor’s Council in its 400-year history.
